The Minister

Robert Weston has served as the Minister for Tavistock United Reformed Church since August 2017, having previously served for 14 years at Park United Reformed Church in Reading, Berkshire. Robert is delighted to be serving Tavistock United Reformed Church which is committed to being both an inclusive and progressive congregation. Robert is passionate about the challenge of climate chaos and how we can all be more environmentally friendly. As an Eco Church congregation we have achieved the highest Eco Church Award, the Gold Award and we continue to work towards being a net zero church.

Robert is a part-time Minister and is one part of the leadership team that includes several elders, all of whom bring a wealth of experience to their roles. Together the Minister, Elders and Church Members are responsible for the worship, pastoral care and mission of the church – recognising that each one of us has a God given part to play in the world.

Within Tavistock, Robert is actively involved in Tavistock Area Christians Together,  Tavistock Foodbank and Tavistock Fairtrade Steering Group.

In addition to his role as Minister at Tavistock United Reformed Church, Robert is also a part-time Minister at Lavington United Reformed Church in Bideford and Muddiford United Reformed Church near Barnstaple. Rob is also one of the Green Apostles for South Western Synod of the URC and a member of the Synod Executive. In 2025 Rob became a part-time Synod Pastoral Advisor for the churches in Devon South and East.

Together with his wife Suzy, Robert also runs a small Christian Retreat Centre and campsite at Tinhay, a short drive from Tavistock. The website for their retreat centre is www.tinhayretreats.com
